With María and Julián working the dining room and Carmen in the kitchen, the Fernández family has been running this restaurant since 1995. Immediately prior, they’d decided to leave their hometown of San Sebastián and settled to work and live in Barcelona. The name of the restaurant has a curious origin. Previously, the establishment was a hangout for football fans called “Tactics”. The Fernández decided to change the letters “c” to “k” and add the adjective “berri”, which in Basque means “new.” Therefore, in English, the name means “New Tactic.” Taktika Berri’s decor and hot and cold morsels remind many diners of the north of Spain. Standout dishes include piquillo peppers with tuna, croquettes, tortilla, Gilda, anchovies, txangurro (stuffed spider crab), marinated salmon, cod with peppers, hake, and chistorra (fast-cured sausage).
