It’s been 40 years since Sandra’s parents opened this restaurant right in front of the old Tortosa slaughterhouse, which has since been converted into a museum. Sandra joined the team 20 years back and now runs it with her uncle and aunt, Tere and Pepi. Throughout the welcoming space, she’s let her imagination run wild to create a gastronomic experience based on Mediterranean cuisine coupled with fresh produce, traditional recipes, and a touch of modernity. The Matadero offers buffet breakfasts, tapas, daily menus and seasonal dishes from a menu which combines both native and exotic textures and flavors. Two of the standout meals are the tripe and the slow cooked oxtail stew.
