This hundred-year-old place has been with the family since 1953, when
it was a simple café. One of the original owner’s sons, Lluís, created a
small bistro in the 80s, keeping the café element intact. Later, his brother
Josep Maria joined forces and the two worked solely towards a restaurant
that would occupy the entire building. The sibling team did so
well they even snagged a Michelin star in 2008. A year later, the owner’s
granddaughters entered the fray as the third generation. These days,
Marina and Cristina run the business, while husband Àlex masters the
kitchen thanks to his experience at the prestigious El Celler de Can
Roca. L’Aliança 1919’s main culinary concept is fusing the past three
generations: the vermouths and appetizers of the grandparent’s, Lluís’s
traditional recipe book, and a modern touch from the new generation.
