Pep and Teresa opened this roadside hostel more than sixty years ago. There was even a small shop which sold everything from shoes to macaroni, as was common at the time. Every year, the couple would slaughter a pig and host a feast for the neighbourhood. Their son Josep and his wife Carme continued with the business, to which they’ve devoted an enormous amount of time and effort over the years. They’ve even opened a butcher shop out the back where they sell produce which they’ve slaughtered themselves – one of the few remaining businesses of its kind in Catalonia today. Currently, their son David takes care of the kitchen while his wife Marta serves the dining room. The cuisine of Can Valls is traditionally Catalan which respects authentic flavours, albeit with an original and modern touch.
