Founded in 1786, this is considered the oldest restaurant in Catalonia.
The stories these walls could tell are as endless as they are epic, but
we’ll only regale one which pertains to the origin of its name. The
waiter, who was forever run off his feet, would constantly tell the
cleaning ladies: “girls, girls... more spoons!” (culleretes). It wasn’t until
the end of the 19th century that it began to function as a restaurant
(rather than a patisserie), thanks to the great-grandfather of the
Agut Manubens family. Since then, this fifth generation family has
been serving almost exactly the same traditional Catalan recipes that
their ancestors cooked over a century ago. Its modernist decoration
is priceless, complemented by paintings and photographs of the celebrities
who’ve visited over the years.
