Famous throughout the region for its homemade food, tapas, and
signature cuisine, Cal Xirricló is a part of Balaguer’s living history.
It all started in 1954 when Josep Molins i Solé and his wife opened
a winery in the old neighborhood which packed out with customers,
especially on market days. In 1962, the business passed into the
hands of their son, Salvador, and it became a popular Balaguer meeting
point for an early afternoon vermouth. After the death of Salvador
in 1995, Cal Xirricló passed into the hands of his wife, Rosa, who
had to change restaurant locations in 2000 as demand outgrew the
space. Now in the new part of Balaguer, the third generation of the
Molins family, Francesc, the son of Rosa and Salvador, continues to
ensure Cal Xirricló remains a standout locale.
