Joan Saumell and his son of the same name run this restaurant near the train station in Vilafranca del Penedès. The father opened it in 1991 to serve up to 40 guests. These days, however, the site has expanded to seat 150 and is highly sought-after for its ability to feed large groups. Their gastronomic proposal is based on friendly service, and traditional yet straightforward Mediterranean cuisine made entirely from fresh local produce. The grilled meats are a menu highlight, as are the regional dishes from seasonal produce such as “calçots” and “xató”. All these are best washed down with a glass of local wine, as one would expect when dining in the Penedés.
