Antaviana opened in November 1988 as a culinary project of Rosina, a girl from Barcelona who decided to quit her job in search of a more satisfying career. She ended up in Roses where she bought a vegetable store and converted it into a small restaurant to serve tostadas, cheese, and cold soup while saving to build a bigger new kitchen. Carles had an interior design office nearby and used to eat at her restaurant. When Rosina explained her plans to expand the store, Carles offered to help. The two fell in love and worked together in the restaurant for 30 years until Rosina passed away last year. Nowadays, Carles and his son, Joaquim, continue to run the business with Rosina’s recipes, using traditional produce cooked with modern techniques.
